“Scotty” has been to hell and back, yet on Sunday we saw this “former cutter” win the greatest campdraft accolade of them all, THE WARWICK GOLD CUP.
We first met “Scotty” at the 2017 NCHA Futurity and we’ve never forgotten him. Not only because the stunning black stallion had the longest, most exquisite tail we had ever seen, but because he was named after SDP Buffalo Ranch principal Shane Plummer’s late brother Scott David.

Bred by Debbie Donohoe, Shane Plummer acquired the colt as a weanling. Scotty had a full Futurity training program with Jamie Creek, and Shane finaled him in the Non Pro Futurity.
Following the Futurity, ‘Scotty’ was sold, but circumstances dictated a quiet life until March 2022, when Sam & Sarah Campbell of Banshee Performance Horses purchased him.

He arrived at Banshee with an injury & a very advanced, potentially career ending, infection developed. His future looked grim.

However, intensive rehab with Angie Siebel from Goodwood Equine turned this story around. ‘Scotty’ was back on track and after just three weeks under saddle with Jamie Seccombe, he placed 4th in the $5000 Novice at Killarney. This was his first showing in 6 years.

In September Scotty joined Kimberley Sammon’s team and on his first campdraft start EVER, he won the Stanthorpe Maiden Cutout. They competed in multiple drafts and although they got plenty of seconds the win didn’t come until 3 weeks before the Warwick Gold Cup when they broke status winning the Rathdowney Tony Ward Memorial Maiden.

The scramble was then on to get his nominations in to Warwick, nominations closed that day.

They entered the final of The Cup in=2nd position with scores of 90 & 89.5, just 0.5 of a point off the lead. An 88.5 in the final saw them finish with a 0.5 point buffer.
The Warwick Gold Cup is their 2nd win!

Congratulations again to Kimberley Sammon and to owners Sam & Sarah Campbell. Scotty’s story has touched the hearts of all who know him, it proves there’s always hope when you’re given the right backing. For him to have overcome such adversity and still retain his beautiful nature bears testimony to the care given by those who surround him.

Congratulations also to SDP Buffalo Ranch & Hydrive Cat who can now boast a Warwick Gold Cup winner!
