An exceptional sire proves that he can perform at the highest level consistently, with any rider, in any situation.
There is an Australian bred stallion who has lived up to those exacting standards. This horse has excelled since he first stepped into a competition arena. He has continued to win and place against the toughest competition, year-after-year, across multiple disciplines.
That horse is Royalle Double Your Money.
The chance to purchase such a horse is rare. Only occasionally do the elite appear in a sale ring. Understandably, Royalle Double Your Money caused a stir at the Dalby Stock Horse Sale in 2022. As was expected, he was in hot demand, eventually selling for $100,000.
Rob Acton and Adele Mudge were now the proud owners of this exciting sire. He was sold by Gennie-Anne Woodall & Hume Simpson, who described him as “an elite athlete”. Rob had the chance to ride the horse known as DYM, prior to the sale.
I loved him from the minute I stepped on him. I’d never ridden a horse like him!”
DYM has made a big impression with everyone who has known him. Beginning with Gennie-Anne Woodall, who took a keen interest in him when he was just a weanling. As he grew, she could see many similarities to Doubletime, his highly regarded full sister. Based on this, she decided to buy the young colt in 2009.
It became quickly apparent that he was something special.
“He was talented, powerful, athletic, spirited and was gifted with incredible intelligence”. Gennie-Anne said that this very special horse showed an astounding instinct to read cattle from the very beginning.
Royalle Double Your Money began competing as a 3yo in 2011. That first season he showed a lot of promise, and won the working section of the National Stock Horse Futurity.
He was sent to Mark Buttsworth in 2012 and started placing in drafts straight away. Early wins included Monto and Paradise Lagoons Junior Stockmans Challenges. He placed in other major challenges that year also.
Showing his versatility, during that same year, Kim and Glen Frazer competed on him in ASH show ring and challenge events – winning Supreme, Champion and Reserves.
Glen has only praise for the stallion, saying, “He is the best horse I have ridden in 20 years”.
DYM went on to win the Capella Junior Stockmans Challenge with Jon Templeton. In 2013, this partnership won the Junior Paradise Lagoons Stockmans Challenge, won the previous year with Mark Buttsworth. They finished 2nd in the Champion of Champions draft, running a 91 & 92. They then went on to place in a host of other events. He finished the year as an Open campdraft horse. Notably, DYM won at least 7 consecutive cut outs that season.
This is how Jon Templeton described him in an interview with EHorse Trainer, “He’s a cow horse…He thinks about a cow so well: he thinks about where the cow is going to take him and where he has to be to control it. When it comes to cattle work you know that he’s going to be on the same page that you are and that he’ll be right there when you need him. He’s got a lot of speed which comes down to being that Ferrari again – there’s a lot of horse power there.”
In 2014/15 the focus was on campdrafting, now with Cal Gibson. This duo placed at the highest-level, weekend-after-weekend. Jan Simmons also won the Ladies at Narrabri on him that year, the first time she rode him.
2018/19 DYM was campaigned by Nathan Wilson and Brydie Hughes, where he had an incredible season, excelling across a range of disciplines.
Brydie won the Ladies draft at Coonamble the first time she rode him. He then crossed over to compete in Working Cow Horse with Nathan, and Snafflebit Cutting with Brydie. He won 6 consecutive cutting events, was named the WBBC Snaffle Bit Cutting Champion and was awarded with the Les Rudd Snr Perpetual Memorial Trophy for Overall High Point Horse.
Yet it didn’t end there, DYM was excelling in Open Challenges as well, including winning Horse of the North. He was named the 2019 Australian Open Challenge Horse of the Year.
DYM has continued to impress, winning, and placing on a consistent basis. Post Sale he joined Ashleigh Fairbrother’s Stables and instantly picked up where previous trainers left off. Irrespective of jockey or discipline DYM gives his all and it’s reflected in the results he continues to amass.
The adaptability of this accomplished stallion has been nothing short of exceptional. He breeds this versatility into his progeny, and they are performing in multiple arenas at a national level.
Like Jon Templeton, Rob compares DYM to a Ferrari. “He has the looks, the power, and the performance. He loves to compete, and he never stops trying. He is a freak on a cow, powerful, smooth, soft, and natural. He is so in-tune and always gives 110 percent.
“He has good old bloodlines, as well as height, bone, ability, and intelligence – and he passes it all on. He is a terrific out-cross for a lot of the mares.”
