2017 NCHA Media Release

The National Cutting Horse Association Futurity started this week at the Australian Equine & Livestock Events Centre with larger than expected crowds.

The 13 day extravaganza kicked off with the first go round of the Shadow Trailers Australia Open Derby 4 years old horses, showing some much envied skills.

The top two highest scores for the 55 horse round were hard to split, shared five ways with NCHA top earner Todd Graham aboard Pimped Up Cat (IMP) and Glen Innesโ€™s Phil Dawson on Hangin With Royalty dueling first place with a score of 220; while second place was shared three ways with 2016 Open Futurity Champion Moore Metal and trainer Trent Smith, Playin Sophisticated and Aaron Wheatley and Jamie Creek on Magicool for a score of 219.

The second go round of the Open Derby will be held as the last event on Friday 2nd June.

After the Derby, the first go round of the premier event; the Bayer & SDP Buffalo Ranch Open Futurity ran into the night to determine the top ranks in a group of 141 three year olds battling for a guaranteed $75,000 to the winner of the final on Sunday 11th June.

Fridayโ€™s events include the first go round of the Mavericks Western Wear Open Classic Challenge, the second go round of the AUS v USA Non Pro Challenge and the second go round of the Shadow Trailers Australia Open Derby.

Saturday seeโ€™s the NCHA Select Cutting Horse Sale offer 105 quality cutting bred lots with free entry, while the night will include the Bull Ride & Rodeo at 7pm with live music and a 4 man shootout to crown the champion of each event plus the very talented Kate Clancy and her trick horse from 6.30pm to entertain the whole family.

The 2017 NCHA Futurity will continue until Sunday 11th June at the Australian Equine & Livestock Events Centre in Tamworth with free entry days Sale Day Saturday 3rd June (ticketing to begin at 2pm for Rodeo & Bull Ride) Sunday 4th, Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th June featuring a whole host of amazing Western Traders to suit all of your western needs.
